E is for Expectations, Managed #atozchallenge

A blog post title as a play on a certain spell from a certain movie with a wizard in the lead role (mischief, anyone?) leads me to today’s act of kindness.

Manage your expectations.

This includes being clear on what they are to others and most importantly, to yourself.

Most of us are not mind readers, but it’s likely that we’ve been in situations where we’ve gotten upset and headed into an argument because someone else didn’t read our own minds…that’s not really fair to the other party.  The only way to avoid these types of situations is to manage your expectations.

It’s kind to clearly state how you feel, to know yourself, and to let others know how you roll.

It’s kind to let it be.

It’s also kind to not assume or expect other people’s actions will depend solely on your own desires.

And while I’m at it, I’m going to leave a nod to The Four Agreements by don Miguel Ruiz right here:

Be impeccable with your word.  

Don’t take anything personally 

Don’t make assumptions

Always do your best

Each of the Agreements have to do with managing your expectations, either of yourself or of others.  If you do this, there will be a lot less judgement and a lot more kindness in your life.

  1. “Mischief managed” was exactly where my mind went. lol This is an area I need to keep in mind. I tend to get inside my head too much and then get upset when everyone isn’t in there with me.

    • I knew at least one person would get it! 🙂 And yes, I used to be the Queen of doing this…I still do it sometimes, but at least now, I don’t get as upset because I’m conscious of it now …baby steps!
