S is for Slow Down and Signal #atozchallenge

Slow Down and Signal

I know today’s letter is S and my theme is kindness, but I am still reeling from the news of yet another one of my favorite musicians passing this year.  So I’m doing a combo today…part kindness, part Prince (though…I suppose paying tribute is kind….)

First the kindness part…S is for slowing down and signaling – things you need to do while driving.  I have found that there is something that happens to people when they get behind the wheel of a car that makes them the opposite of kind. It’s truly amazing to me – how people think that their needs and wants are more important than someone else’s life.

So for today – SLOW DOWN.  There’s no need to run a red light. Near a school. During drop-off and pick-up.  Pay attention to what you’re doing and know that your actions can affect others.

SIGNAL – so people know where you’re going! Don’t cut someone off if you’re about to miss your turn…you can always take the next one…and that goes for driving and life.

And now…the Prince part.  This is Prince with the Muppets (Starfish and Coffee, starts at 3:58)…and along with another S song (Sexy MF – check it out if you’ve never heard it…has some brilliant horns…amongst other things) it has been in my head for several hours. Gentle and bombastic at the same time – musical savant.  He will be missed.

Stay tuned during the month of April to see other ways in which you can incorporate kindness into your daily life and encourage others to do the same…I’ll return to my senses on May 1.

  1. Kindness whilst driving is so important. I find that most people will be kind – let you in if you need to change lanes etc if you are polite and kind. Slowing down and signalling in life is also a kindness… letting people know -politely and gently how you are feeling if your reaction is going to affect them – giving those around you a little warning if you are going to change a long established way of doing things. Its not that you can’t but a little prewarning can smooth the path so much. And slowing down to take the time to spend some time with people, to enjoy the things that life has to offer, to enjoy the day – that’s a kindness to yourself
