Good things…nestled gently in a storm of yuck.

Sometimes good things happen…and sometimes they happen in quick succession.  So when they do, I like to acknowledge them, thank the Universe and pray that things continue to align.  They also, as it has happened now, seem to oftentimes occur in the middle of a crapstorm.

So without further adieu…

I got a raise!  Now I’m not talking the annual (or sometimes delayed depending on how crazy it gets during the school year) bit based on performance. I’m talking an across the board, we-realize-we-needed-to-be competitive, tears-come-to-your-eyes kind of raise.  Thank you Universe.

On the flip side, we are in the middle of a move at work that has been…challenging.  I think a couple of years ago, it would have been even harder for me to handle because hardly any of it is under my control.  I’m trying to follow Mr. Winwood’s advice and “Roll With It” and for the most part, it is working. I feel like a horse at the starting gates, but the track is muddy and they won’t let us onto the track.  Here’s to hoping things clear up this week…

In other news…

Tomorrow, a piece I wrote will be featured on a blog I follow called Lessons From the End of a Marriage. I’m super excited about this, as I’m always happily surprised and grateful that people read and like my writing.  To have it featured on another blog, by a writer whose work I admire is like a pound of bacon at breakfast – too good! Her name is Lisa Arends, so please give her blog some love…especially tomorrow! Thank you Universe, and Lisa for the opportunity 🙂

Totally unrelated, but definitely part of the storm of yuck, changes in schedules for preschoolers suck ass. My little monkey will be entering the Jewish version of Pre-K this Fall and in order to transition her to the new schedule, summer camp adheres to the same hours, 9 AM-3 PM.  When I drop her (at camp, not on her head), she needs to be there at 8 AM, so I can get to work on time, and generally that isn’t the problem. The lack of a nap at all during the week is though.  They have a “rest” time, but it’s not longer than a half hour, and when your kid is used to 2-2.5 hour naps at least a few times M-F, this makes for a cranky child from pickup to bedtime, or sometimes for hours on the weekend.  I’m trying to have her make up the sleep deficit when she’s not there, but as many studies have shown, you can’t really do that.  Her bedtime is already an early 7:30 PM and while I would love to get her to bed by 7 PM, most days that is just not possible. Sigh…I’m trying to roll with it here too, but yesterday was a doozy.

And on one last note, I got on the scale Sunday for the first time since the beginning of June. Frack. MyFitnessPal – I’m sorry I’ve neglected you. Since my pants don’t fit, you will be seeing much more of me. And bacon, unfortunately you might be seeing less of my mouth. I promise we are not breaking up forever, but I need some space.

Hope your weekend was a good one…Happy Monday!
